Every career-path is unique; my journey from academia to industry

March 5th, 09:30-10:00

The career path I envisioned when I was a student and the one that lead to where I am now are very different. As a student I had no idea what working in industry would be like, hence I couldn’t decide whether it was worth pursuing. In this talk I hope to share what I have learned from my journey so far, and give you a flavor of life as a drug discovery scientist (f) at Novartis.

Dr. Carien Dekker

Senior Principal Scientist at Novartis, Basel, Switzerland.

Carien Dekker is a Senior Principal Scientist at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR)  in Basel, Switzerland. She received her PhD from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Prior to joining Novartis she worked at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and the Institute for Cancer Research (ICR), both in London, UK. She is an experienced leader in early stage drug discovery and structural biology, passionate about science communication and an advocate for developing people to the best of their potential.
